Thailand Bars: Same Same, But Different

First things First
For expats living in Thailand, most will have their favorite bar, or a few favorite businesses, that they regularly visit and that they have patronaged for many years, rarely trying new businesses and just sticking to what they know. Why choose these businesses to be their favorites rather than others? The differences, for most, won't be that much. Perhaps starting from their first visit, good customer service and an enjoyable night has won them over. Nowadays, perhaps these businesses have become part of a routine, perhaps the familiarity, sentimentality, known faces or convenience brings them back again and again.

But, what about newcomers to Thailand, and short-stay tourists, with no bonds, and an eagerness to experience the best of Thai Nightlife? How can newcomers and tourists to Thailand know what are the best bars, agogos and massage parlors, and what defines "the best" bars, agogos and massage parlors? With the size of Thailand's nightlife scene, immediately navigating and knowing which businesses are the best, with no experience, is almost impossible. In this blog, we will outline, in our opinion, what separates one business from another, and what elevates one business from other businesses.

Spoiler alert! With so many bars and nightlife businesses almost indistinguishable from each other, in this blog, we will define what makes the "best" bar or business by what unique services are available. And of course, ultimately, what each person would define as the "best" depends on what they want or what you are looking for!

What Defines The Best?
When gauging the "best" business or entertainment in any particular city around the world, the most common determiners are well known. Look at any online review and you can see the same repeating determiners. Amongst others, good customer service, value for money and Location. For this blog we will also include these factors in our decision making process. Of course, when discussing Thailand's adult and nightlife businesses, we obviously need to include the beauty of the staff and rating of and the service provided.

Difficulties in Rating
However, with Thailand's large nightlife scene, and common month to month contracts for staff, and the many opportunities that large nightlife scene provides staff and customers, the problem with these determiners is, due to the high turnover of staff in these businesses, customer service, the beauty of the staff and the quality of the service can vary widely from month to month. As such, for this blog, our determiners for the "best" bar or nightlife experience, will mostly be focused on unique services provided, that make the business stand out amongst the copy and paste, generic bars.

With all that said, (below) we will discuss these factors while looking at each business type, one by one.

Unique Agogo Experiences
Walking down popular agogo streets, Walking Street and LK Metro in Pattaya, and Soi Cowboy and Nana Plaza complex in Bangkok, from the outside, it appears that the flashy LED signage and elaborately designed exteriors, are proof of vastly different agogo experiences inside. However, unfortunately, once inside, for most agogo bars, there isn't much difference from one agogo to another. Upon entering it's standard to find a large elevated dance floor in the middle of the premises, complete with stripper poles. Along the walls of each side of the agogo are seats and drink rests facing the main stage. Once a novelty, but now also common in most agogos, there may be smaller stages or Jacuzzis off to the side.

With all that said, there are some agogo bars that are a little different, offering unique services or slightly different experiences. Feeling bored of the standard agogo experience, checking out these agogos, whilst still giving you your agogo experience, offer something different from other agogos.

Angelwitch Agogo - well known, and long established, Angelwitch agogo stands out from other standard agogos with it's Hard Rock theme and Showtime shows every 30 minutes. @ Nana Plaza, Bangkok.

Lucky Star, Long Gun Agogo - One of the oldest bars on Soi Cowboy, this is clear by the vintage decor, Long Gun separates itself from the standard agogos with a number of erotic shows, including ping pong shows. Importantly, unlike the infamously scam ping pong around Bangkok, Long Gun is a safe place to visit. @ Soi Cowboy, Bangkok.

Kinky Girls Agogo - Opened for more than 15 years as "The Strip" and Recently renamed Kinky Girls Agogo. Kinky Girls separates itself from other agogo experiences by offering gentleman's club style experiences, with BJ and full service inside, in their private booths, behind a privacy curtain. @ Patpong Soi 2, Bangkok.

Crazy House Agogo - One of the newest bars on Soi Cowboy, Crazy House is a two-floored agogo bar with a large glass ceiling on the first floor, allowing customers a great view of the second floor dance floor. Crazy House also has a large number of girls. Most importantly, all the girls are completely naked all night. Crazy House also has some small ping pong shows throughout the night. @ Soi Cowboy, Bangkok.

Windmill Agogo - Infamously the naughtiest agogo bar in Pattaya, Windmill Agogo has a full hands-on policy at all times, with Windmill staff encouraging customer participation wherever possible. Not for the faint hearted, it's not uncommon to see full x-rated action in full view of other customers in the bar. @ Walking Street, Pattaya.

Unique Massage Experiences
With nearly a traditional massage or erotic massage on every soi in Bangkok, Phuket and Pattaya, there are many options for paying customers to try in each city. Ignoring the traditional massage and focusing only on the erotic massage for this blog, there are still thousands of options available. From the outside, most Erotic massage parlors look the same, with the exception of the large fishbowl style massage, most erotic massage are glass fronted shopfront with prices and services on the windows. Outside may be sitting a number of massage girls waiting for customers. Once inside there isn't much difference either, a seating area with sofas where the staff can discuss the services before being taken to the rooms.

With all that said, for those customers who wish to avoid the average massage experience and wish to only try the very best, there are some massage businesses that are a little different, offering unique services or slightly different experiences. Walking down popular bar streets in Bangkok and Phuket, or almost any street in Pattaya, it's common to find dozens of bars lining each side of the street. From the outside, most bars look the same, with seating area for customers, some decorations inline with the bar's theme and staff in uniform, also matching the bar's theme. Depending on the bar, upstairs may be some short-time rooms for a little extra fun.

With all that said, for those customers who wish to avoid the average bar experience and wish to only try some unique experiences, there are some bar businesses that are a little different, offering unique services or slightly different experiences. Checking out these bars, whilst still giving you your normal bar experience, offer something different from other bars.

 Toy Bar - One of the oldest bars on Soi Cowboy, this is clear when stepping inside, Toy Bar Bangkok stands out from other standard bars with its old-school BJ bar service. What makes Toy Bar's BJ Bar style different from more modern BJ bars, is the BJ service is given in the middle of the bar, surrounded by other customers. @ Soi Cowboy, Bangkok.
